China's offshore drilling hits new speed

Recently, CNOOC completed the drilling task efficiently in an offshore exploration well located in the Yinggehai Basin. Among them, the highest single-day footage on August 20 was as high as 2,138 meters, setting a new domestic record for daily footage of a single well in offshore oil and gas wells, marking a new breakthrough in China's offshore oil and gas well drilling speed-increasing technology.

 

"Smart drilling" empowers quality and efficiency improvement

Increasing drilling speed is one of the important means to ensure the achievement of offshore drilling operation goals. The offshore natural gas exploration well that broke the drilling speed record was designed to have a well depth of over 3,600 meters, with a maximum temperature of 162 degrees Celsius at the bottom. It required drilling through multiple sets of formations at different stages, and there were special circumstances such as abnormal formation pressure gradients.

 

The offshore drilling operation team made accurate analysis and judgment on the geological conditions of the operation area in advance, and optimized the well structure during the design stage, shortening the overall well construction process. The operation team innovated operating tools and explored the potential of the equipment. During the operation, the screw drilling tools were improved according to the formation conditions and made into specialized drilling speed-increasing tools. At the same time, digital and intelligent technologies such as big data were fully utilized to ensure operation safety and well construction. On the basis of quality, the drilling speed is significantly improved.

 

CNOOC vigorously promotes the application of digital intelligent technology in the field of speeding up drilling of offshore oil and gas wells. The offshore drilling technology team relies on the self-built "drilling optimization system" to compare historical data of oil and gas well drilling in multiple offshore areas in a timely manner and conduct operations in advance. Accurate analysis and judgment of regional geological conditions can make scientific decisions faster when facing complex well conditions, effectively improving operational efficiency and success rate.

 

Since the beginning of this year, China's offshore drilling has achieved remarkable results in increasing the speed of drilling, with the daily footage of a single well exceeding the 2,000-meter mark for the first time. CNOOC took advantage of the favorable operating conditions, set a new daily record of offshore drilling footage twice within a month, completed drilling tasks in relevant blocks with high quality, and continued to contribute value to the goal of increasing domestic oil and gas reserves and production.

 

China's core technology system for offshore drilling and completion continues to improve

 

During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, China has achieved remarkable results in increasing offshore oil and gas reserves and production. The average number of domestic offshore drilling wells per year is nearly 1,000, an increase of 40% compared with the "13th Five-Year Plan" period. Among them, the number of operating wells in new fields such as deep and ultra-deep, high temperature and high pressure, and deep water has doubled that during the “13th Five-Year Plan” period, and the overall efficiency of drilling and completion operations has increased by 15%.

 

In recent years, through the implementation of the development of the deep and ultra-deep gas field Bozhong 19-6, the operation of 10,000-meter ultra-deep extended reach wells in the Enping Oilfield, the second phase development of the deep-water high-pressure gas field "Shenhai No. 1" and the ultra-deep-water and ultra-shallow gas field Lingshui 36-1 Exploration Evaluation, China’s offshore drilling and completion technology has achieved leapfrog development.

 

CNOOC continues to increase technological innovation, improve lean management levels, and create ten major technology systems including offshore cluster wells, ultra-deep extended reach wells, high temperature and high pressure, and deepwater high-efficiency drilling and completion. The rotary steerable drilling and logging-while-drilling technologies have reached the industry-leading level; deep-sea drilling heavy engineering equipment represented by the "Haiyang Shiyou 982" drilling platform and the "Hai Yang Shiyou 720" deep-sea geophysical exploration ship have been put into operation, and the "Hai Jing Shi You Jing" has been put into operation. High-tech exploration and development equipment represented by "Haimai" and "Haihong" have obtained complete independent oil and gas exploration and development capabilities in deep water and ultra-deep water fields... The newly developed and put into use offshore oil and gas drilling equipment covers everything from shallow water to deep water, from normal temperature to normal. In many fields such as high temperature and high pressure, the independent design and manufacturing capabilities of offshore oil and gas drilling equipment have gradually entered the world's advanced level.
