China's 10,000-ton offshore drilling and production platform has been installed in the South China Sea
In the early morning of August 25, in the waters of the Pearl River Estuary Basin, China's 10,000-ton oil drilling and production platform, Lufeng 8-1, successfully completed the lifting of the upper block and entered the commissioning stage before production.
According to reports, the jacket used as the "foundation" of the Lufeng 8-1 platform was launched and installed on June 14 this year. The upper block of the platform, including the east and west production modules, living building, drilling rig module, and other 8 monostructures with a total weight of 11,725 tons, was lifted to the jacket one by one by the crane "Blue Whale" in a similar way to "building blocks". After the installation, the Lufeng 8-1 platform will reach a total height of 228 meters, equivalent to a 70-story building, with a total weight of more than 24,000 tons, equivalent to the weight of about 18,000 cars.
The Lufeng 8-1 platform is one of the main pieces of equipment for the second-phase development project of CNOOC Lufeng Oilfield Group. The total investment of the project is 2.81 billion yuan, which is included in the key project of Shenzhen in 2023, and the main engineering construction content includes an offshore drilling and production platform, a submarine mixed transport pipeline, and a submarine composite cable.
The platform, which integrates drilling, production, and living in a water depth of 136 meters, will simultaneously develop three oil fields, Lufeng 8-1, Lufeng 14-8, and Lufeng 9-2, with a peak daily output of 24,000 barrels of crude oil.
In addition, the Lufeng 8-1 platform is equipped with China's offshore gas turbine generator set with fully independent intellectual property rights, which has the characteristics of strong power and low energy consumption, generating more than 5,000 KWH per hour. Compared with the same power thermal generator set, it can reduce the annual standard coal consumption of 29,200 tons and carbon dioxide emissions of about 79,400 tons.
