Major discovery made in Well Luntan 1 in Tarim
The deepest well onshore in Asia in the Tarim Basin - a major discovery was made in exploration, with a daily crude oil production of more than 100 tons, marking an important breakthrough in China's ultra-deep well oil and gas exploration technology.
Well Luntan 1 is located in Kuqa City, Xinjiang, with a completed drilling depth of 8,882 meters, making it the deepest well on land in Asia. Since drilling started on June 28, 2018, it has set seven Asian drilling records. After testing, the daily output of crude oil and natural gas exceeds 100 tons and 50,000 cubic meters of natural gas, which is more than 60 times the average daily output of a single well in China. The exploration area of the oil and gas strata produced by Well Luntan 1 is 23,000 square kilometers, and the oil and gas resources are predicted to reach 3 billion tons.
The current tested daily crude oil production is 133.5 cubic meters (equivalent to 111.7 tons). The Tarim Basin can find liquid petroleum hydrocarbons at depths below 8,200 meters. This is the first time in the history of world oil exploration and development. The discovery of this well has expanded the new situation of Tarim exploration. .
Marching into the deep parts of the earth and expanding deep oil and gas resources is of great significance to building a solid resource base for China's energy security. Well Luntan 1 obtained industrial oil and gas flow at an ultra-deep depth of 8,200 meters, breaking the "death line" for oil exploration at an ultra-deep depth of 8,000 meters.
The Tarim Basin is China's largest deep oil and gas rich area. At present, more than 20 large oil and gas structures have been discovered in the Tarim Oilfield below 8,000 meters.
The Tarim Oilfield where Well Luntan 1 is located is the third largest oil and gas field in China and one of the main gas sources for the West-East Gas Pipeline. In 2019, oil and gas production equivalent exceeded 28 million tons, a net increase of 1.78 million tons compared with 2018, the largest increase in recent years. At present, the daily natural gas output of the Tarim Oilfield has exceeded 86 million cubic meters, of which approximately 15 million cubic meters are supplied to southern Xinjiang every day, ensuring a warm winter for more than 4 million people of all ethnic groups in the surrounding Tarim Basin.
