What is large diameter seamless steel pipe?

01-10-2023

Large-diameter steel pipes generally refer to steel pipes with a diameter of more than 16 inches and up to 100 inches. They play an important role in the transportation of oil and natural gas. For long-distance pipeline projects, large-diameter steel pipes can transport more liquids and have greater flow rates. Especially in recent years, the use of large-diameter steel pipes has increased.

In most cases, large-diameter seamless steel pipes are made by welding, such as LSAW pipes or SSAW pipes; in addition, seamless steel pipes can also be made by thermal expansion.

It should be noted that for high-pressure pipelines, large-diameter seamless pipes are the first choice. Because welded pipes cannot withstand as much pressure as seamless pipes (the weakest part of welded pipes is the weld), the weld may break or crack at any time.

Many industries also require large-diameter stainless steel seamless steel pipes for liquid transportation and machine parts manufacturing. Mainly made by argon arc welding, the material standard is ASTM A312 or EN 10088-3. The levels are as follows:

TP304/L/H, S30400, S30403, S31409

TP316/L/H, S31600, S31603, S31609

TP310S/H, S31008, S31009

TP321/H, S32100, S32109

TP347/H, S34700, S34709
